If you would like to serve your community on Election Day as a Precinct Officer, Madera County needs your assistance. Precinct Officers are paid for their services, depending on their position. The positions available are Inspector and Judge. A precinct board is comprised of 1 Inspector and 2 to 3 Judges. To get involved, call the Elections Division at (559) 675-7720, download the application and mail it in, or contact us via e-mail at www.elections@madera-county.com

To Be a Precinct Officer you must be:
• A registered voter
• Able to follow written instruction
• Able to serve on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.

Pay Schedule:
• All workers earn $6.75 per hour (Federal Minimum Wage)
• Inspector - Additional Duties Stipend $10.00 (Flat Rate)
• Training - Inspector Mandatory Attendance $10.00 (Flat Rate)
• Training - Judges $10.00 (Flat Rate) paid only if attend class
• Mileage - paid at .36c per mile to attend training and for ballot delivery to drivers only on election night

Duties of the Inspector - The person in charge of the polling place:
• Attend mandatory training class (approximately 2 hours) to receive training and pick up the supplies and ballots for Election Day.
• Check supplies to be certain you have been provided all materials needed to conduct the election.
• Call the other Board Members assigned to your precinct and remind them to appear on election day.
• Call the polling place contact person to ensure you will have access at 6:00 a.m. election morning.
• Assign duties, including set up, clean up and breaks to the Board Members.
• Return the ballots and supplies to the central counting center (or as otherwise instructed); accompanied by another board member of your choice.

Duties of the Judges (Clerks):
• Assume duties as assigned by the Inspector including, but not limited to - finding voter’s names on the precinct index, have voters sign the Roster, issue Official Ballot card(s), deposit voted ballots into the ballot box, set up, clean up and assist in any way possible.
• Fill in for the Inspector at his/her break time or in case of last minute emergency, if requested.
• Accompany Inspector to the Central Counting Center to turn in the ballots and supplies on election night, if requested.
