When registering to vote, you may affiliate with any
qualified political party, you may affiliate with a
political party that has not qualified in California,
or you may decline to state a political party. If you
register without indicating your political party affiliation,
you will be considered a decline to state voter.
In California, the qualified political parties are:
• American Independent
• Democratic
• Green
• Libertarian
• Peace & Freedom
• Republican

If you wish to change your current political
party affiliation, you must re-register at least 15
days prior to an election. In the general election,
voters may vote for any candidate regardless of political
party affiliation. See Registering
