PROVISIONAL VOTING

If there is any question about a voter’s right to vote at the polling place, he or she has the right to vote a Provisional Ballot. Some reasons for voting a provisional ballot are:

  • Voter is not listed on the Active or Inactive List of Voters at the precinct
  • Voter moved within Madera County, but did not re-register at new address
  • Voter was issued a Vote By Mail Ballot, but is unable to Surrendered that ballot
  • Voter is a first time voter in Madera County, and is unable to provide ID

 

PROVISIONAL BALLOT VOTING PROCEDURE

  1. Complete and sign the pink Provisional Ballot Voter Declaration Envelope;
  2. Complete a new voter registration card ;
  3. Sign the pink page of the Official Roster;
  4. Vote your ballot;
  5. After voting, take your ballot, along with the completed envelope, to the precinct officer;
  6. The precinct officer will remove your ballot stubs and give them to you. The precinct officer will then place your voted ballot into the pink provisional ballot envelope and seal.
  7. Once sealed, the precinct officer shall deposit your voted ballot into the ballot box.
  8. The precinct officer will provide you with your Provisional Ballot Receipt which explains how to find out if your provisional ballot was counted, and if not, why not.
  9. At least 28 days after Election Day, you may call 1-800-435-0509 to find out the status of your ballot.
