10.10.010 Statutory authority.

California Streets and Highways Code Section 942.5 permits a board of supervisors to partially restrict highways in order to prevent damage caused by storms; the California Vehicle Code permits a local agency to establish maximum vehicle weight on county roads by ordinance, according to the procedures set forth in California Vehicle Code Division 15, Chapter 5 Article 4, commencing at Section 35700. (Ord. 568 § 1(part), 1997).

10.10.020 Roads subject to weight limits.

The roads to which this chapter applies are:
A. Madera County Road 415 between Madera County Road 606 and Road 400.
B. Madera County Road 600 between Madera County Road 415 and Road 613. (Ord. 568 § 1(part), 1997).

10.10.030 Maximum weight limits established--Exceptions.

On roads which are subject to this chapter, the maximum vehicle weight, for laden and unladen vehicles is fifty-six thousand pounds. Vehicles exceeding fifty-six thousand pounds are permitted on roads subject to this chapter only if they have a bill of lading which shows the point of destination within the area subject to the maximum weight limits. 10.10.040 Signs on entrances to highways.

The weight limits established by this chapter shall not be in effect on Road 415 until the county has placed signs at the entrances to Road 415 from Road 606 and from Road 400 indicating the weight so fixed. The weight limits established by this chapter shall not be in effect on Road 600 until the county has placed signs at the entrances to Road 600 from Road 613 and from Road 415 indicating the weight so fixed. All signs so erected must be of adequate size as to be clearly readable to motorists. (Ord. 568 § 1(part), 1997).

10.10.050 Duration of maximum weight limit.

The weight limits established by this chapter shall remain in effect for no more than ninety days from the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter unless during that time county commences actual repair of the roads specified above and carries it out to completion. 10.10.060 Penal provisions.

Operation of a motor vehicle in violation of the weight limits set forth in this chapter is an infraction which is punishable by a two hundred fifty dollar fine. (Ord. 568 § 1(part), 1997).
