Chapter 13.21 STANDARDS--WATER SERVICE CONNECTIONS

13.21.010 Generally.

A separate lateral shall be provided to each lot in the subdivision. Dual service installations shall be allowed only on a case to case basis by the county engineer. Service laterals shall be placed perpendicular to the main and within the limits of the projection of the property lines of the property to be served wherever feasible. The terminus of each service connection pipe shall be equipped with a gate valve or corporation stop and a valve box. (Ord, 383 § 210, 1974).

13.21.020 Pipe size.

Main water pressure, type of development and expected rate of water consumption shall determine the size of the service lateral, but in no case shall said lateral be smaller than three-fourths of an inch nominal diameter. The utility in installing three-fourths of an inch and one inch services may use the following formula as a guide, provided the requirements of Section 13.12.090 are met:
A. For Three-Fourths Inch Service.
1. Residential lot area - Metered service - 8,000 square feet. Flat rate service - 10,000 square feet.
2. Business - Not over 10 outlets and only one flush-o-meter toilet.
B. For One Inch Service:
1. Residential lot area - Metered service - 8,000 to 20,000 square feet. Flat rate service - 10,000 to 25,000 square feet.
2. Business - From 10 to 30 outlets and from 1 to 2 flush-o-meter toilets. (Ord. 383 § 211, 1974).

13.21.030 Type of pipe.

A. Copper water tubing shall conform to ASTM Designation B88-6l for Type K Copper Water Tube.
B. Steel pipe shall be galvanized and conform to AWWA C800-55 and Schedule 40, Standard Wall Thickness.
C. Brass pipe shall be seamless red brass conforming to ASTM Designation B43-58.
D. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pipe shall conform to Commercial Standards CS256-63.
E. Pipe of any material other than those herein set forth shall have the specific approval of the county engineer. (Ord. 383 § 212, 1974).

13.21.040 Pipe depth.

Service pipes shall be laid at a minimum depth of twenty-four inches below the finished street or highway grade and in other areas at a depth of not less than thirteen inches except at its termination in connecting with the meter or customer’s piping. (Ord. 383 § 213, 1974).
