17.52.010 Survey.
A complete and accurate survey of the land to be subdivided shall be made
by a registered civil engineer or licensed land surveyor licensed in the state
of California (refer to Section 17.32.060) in accordance with standard practices
and principles of land surveying and in accordance with the provisions of the
Land Surveyors’ Act, as set forth in Section 8772 of the Business and
Professions Code of the state. (Ord. 278N § 11(part), 2004: Ord. 278

17.52.020 Location.
Permanent monuments of a type approved by the county engineer shall be
installed at all of the following points:
A. Angle and curve points on the
exterior boundaries of each unit of the subdivision;
B. Angle and curve
points on street centerlines;
C. Cul-de-sac center
points;
D. Intersections of street center lines within the
subdivision;
E. Intersections of internal street centerlines with the
centerlines of external bounding streets, or with the external boundary of each
unit of the subdivision;
F. All property corners and right-of-way
boundaries.
Sufficient permanent monuments shall be set by the surveyor so
that the survey or any portion thereof may be readily retraced. In no case
shall the monument interval exceed five hundred feet. (Ord. 278N §

17.52.030 Type and identification.
Permanent monuments shall be not less substantial than one and
one-half-inch diameter galvanized iron pipe and not less than thirty inches in
length. Monuments shall be buried not less than six inches below finished grade
with point marked by a plastic cap insert in the pipe with tack and disc and
with the engineer’s or surveyor’s number stamped on the disc. (Ord.

17.52.040 Lot corner monuments.
All lot corners shall be identified with monuments not less substantial
than one-inch diameter galvanized iron pipe and not less than twenty-four inches
in length. The pipe shall have a plastic cap insert with a disc bearing the
engineer’s or surveyor’s number stamped on the disc. Monuments
shall be set flush with the finished grade. (Ord. 278N § 11(part), 2004:

17.52.050 Road monuments.
Concrete monuments of a type approved by the road commissioner shall be
installed at intersections of all street centerline tangents with approved
cast-iron ring and covers set to finished grade. The top of the four-inch
minimum diameter monument shall be buried at least twelve inches below the
finished street grade. Where centerline tangents intersect on private property,
monuments shall be located at the B.C. and E.C. of the centerline curves. (Ord.

17.52.060 Acceptance.
All monuments shall be subject to inspection and acceptance by the county
engineer. Any monument or bench mark, as required by this article, that is
disturbed or destroyed before acceptance of all improvements required by this
article shall be replaced by the subdivider. (Ord. 278N § 11(part), 2004:

17.52.070 Setting of monuments.
Monuments need not be set at the time of the final subdivision map
recordation if the engineer or surveyor certifies on the map that the monuments
will be set on or before a specified date subject to the approval of the county
engineer, and if the subdivider furnishes to the board of supervisors a bond or
cash deposit guaranteeing the payment of the cost of setting the monuments in
accordance with the provisions of this article and section the Subdivision Map
Act. The amount of the bond or deposit shall be determined by the county
