Community Services
Functions include all activities for all programs as approved
in the Community Services Administration and the Department of
Health, Education, and Welfare, commonly referred to as CSA and
HEW grants. They are responsible to the governing and administering
Board of the Community Action Agency for the organization and
direction of programs under the Community Services Administration.
Fire
Prevention and Supression
The Madera County Fire Department is a full service fire
department providing emergency services to all unincorporated
areas of Madera County through a network of fire stations,
personnel and equipment. This network is comprised of 15
fire stations, a fleet of approximately 50 apparatus and
support vehicles, and a personnel staff that includes 19
career fire suppression personnel, 185 paid call firefighters
and 11 support personnel. The department is administered,
and career suppression personnel are provided, through a
contract with the California Department of Forestry and
Fire Protection (CDF). Fire Prevention, clerical and automotive
support personnel are County employees. The department assists
with fire protection to the City of Madera through a mutual
aid agreement and also has a cooperative agreement with
Central California Women's Facility for fire protection
services in the North end of Madera County.
Madera County Fire Stations #1 (Madera Valley), #3 (Madera
Acres), #9 (Rolling Hills), #12 (Oakhurst) and #19 (Bonadelle
Ranchos) are staffed 24 hours a day by a full time career
Fire Captain or Fire Apparatus Engineer and are augmented
by paid call firefighters. Stations #2 (Chowchilla), #4
(Dairyland), #10 (Yosemite Lakes), #11 (North Fork), #13
(Coarsegold), #14 (Bass Lake), #15 (Raymond), #16 (Ahwahnee),
#17 (O'Neals) and #18 (Cedar Valley) are staffed exclusively
by paid call firefighters. More
Jackass Rock Camp, Chowchilla Soil Conservation District
Its function is to provide for an appropriate agency to raise
funds for the purpose of constructing and operating a youth,
family, and organization camp and to operate and maintain said
camp primarily for the benefit of the residents and organizations
of Madera County and to insure the proper and orderly utilization
of the natural resources of the area for the benefit of the citizens.
Madera County Livestock Association, Chowchilla Fair
This agreement authorizes the Livestock Association to conduct
an agricultural fair for the purpose of exhibiting and advertising
the livestock and agricultural products of the County and authorizes
their use, possession and management of the fairgrounds.
Behavioral Health
The Behavioral Health Department contracts with Kings View, a
private, non-profit organization, to provide some services. Current
programs include an out-patient clinic, the Day Treatment Program,
the Continuing Care Program, and Alcohol and Drug Abuse programs.
The local program encompasses those areas of service not
included in any other category. These include, but are not
limited to, the following services: outpatient adult services,
children's services, day treatment services, emergency services,
community services, training, conservatorship and providing
individual, marriage, family and group counselling by a
professional staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric
social workers and psychiatric nurses. Persons seeking services
are assisted in recognizing, understanding, and coping with
their individual and life adjustment problems for acute
mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and alcohol and
drug abuse. Commissions
Predatory Animal Control
The control of predators is performed under contract by the
Fish and Wildlife Service of the U. S. Department of Interior.
The contract covers the salary and mileage of a full-time trapper.
Public Defender
The office provides legal defense to indigent defendants
in criminal cases.
