REGULAR MEETING

PRESENT: Commissioners: Tom Fry, David Linn (presiding), Nancy Meyers, and Alfred Rodriguez

County Representatives: Kathy Taylor, Director of Human Resources
Susan Carter, Personnel Analyst
Roseann Ruiz, Personnel Analyst

Absent: Commissioner David Dutton

1. Public Comment. There was no public comment.


2. Consent Calendar. On motion by Commissioner Meyers, seconded by Commissioner Rodriguez, it was ordered:

“That the consent calendar be approved.”

3. Setting time and date of hearing for appeal of Disciplinary Action, Deputy Probation Officer, Probation Department. On motion by Commissioner Meyers, seconded by Commissioner Rodriguez, it was ordered:

“That the hearing for appeal of Disciplinary Action, Deputy Probation Officer, Probation Department, be scheduled for the October 8, 2008 business meeting. Regular business will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the hearing to follow at 6:00 p.m.”

4. Consideration of request by Gail Thomas to participate in the examination process for Librarian I. On motion by Commissioner Fry, seconded by Commissioner Meyers, it was ordered:

“That the request by Gail Thomas to participate in the examination process for Librarian I be approved.”

5. Setting the pass point for the Account Clerk I written examination. On motion by Commissioner Fry, seconded by Commissioner Meyers, it was ordered:

“That the pass point for the Account Clerk I written examination be set at 76.0 points.”

Commissioner Rodriguez abstained.

6. Consideration of leave of absence request, Richard Camp, Permit Technician, Resource Management Agency-Engineering Department, from May 22, 2008 through July 23, 2008. Richard Camp spoke in support of his request. Ray Beach, Resource Management Agency Director, spoke on behalf of the Resource Management Agency-Engineering Department. On motion by Commissioner Meyers seconded by Commissioner Fry, it was ordered:

“That the leave of absence request, Richard Camp, Permit Technician, Resource Management Agency-Engineering Department, from May 22, 2008 through July 23, 2008 be denied.”

7. Consideration of leave of absence request, Gwendolyn Williams, Library Assistant, Library, from June 21, 2008 through August 1, 2008. On motion by Commissioner Meyers, seconded by Commissioner Rodriguez, it was ordered:

“That the leave of absence request, Gwendolyn Williams, Library Assistant, Library, from June 21, 2008 through August 1, 2008 be approved.”

8. Consideration of request for interdepartmental transfer, Yadira Rippee, Office Assistant II, from the Department of Behavioral Health Services to the District Attorney’s Office. On motion by Commissioner Fry, seconded by Commissioner Meyers, it was ordered:

“That the request for interdepartmental transfer, Yadira Rippee, Office Assistant II, from the Department of Behavioral Health Services to the District Attorney’s Office, be approved.”

9. Consideration of request for interdepartmental transfer, Melissa Crawford, Administrative Assistant, from the Fire Department (CAL Fire) to the Probation Department (Boot Camp). On motion by Commissioner Fry, seconded by Commissioner Rodriguez, it was ordered:

“That the request for interdepartmental transfer, Melissa Crawford, Administrative Assistant, from the Fire Department (CAL Fire) to the Probation Department (Boot Camp), be approved.”

10. Staff Reports. Susan Carter recommended that the Civil Service Commission continue to meet at the Resource Management Agency Building and the Commission agreed. Kathy Taylor advised the Commission that she will be retiring from her position as Director of Human Resources at the end of March, 2009.

11. Adjournment. On motion by Commissioner Fry, seconded by Commissioner Meyers, it was ordered:

“That the meeting be adjourned.”
