Public Information and Access to Assessor's Records

Assessment roll information about property ownership and assessment in our county is available for viewing in the Assessor's Office.

Tax assessment roll data is available in three formats: indexed by owner, by parcel number and by address. You may view assessment roll data at the Assessor's Public Counter at 200 W. Fourth St., Madera, CA 93637. There is no charge for viewing this information.

Information about property values, property characteristics, ownership, and recent transfers may also be purchased from the Assessor. You may purchase available public information at the Assessor's Public Counter 200 W. Fourth St., Madera, CA 93637. You can also order it by mail from the Assessor's Customer Services, 209 W. Yosemite Avenue, Madera, CA 93637, or you may fax your request to (559) 675-7654, or you may call (559) 675-7710 (8am-5pm, weekdays).

Access to Assessor's Public Records:

Public Records: The law requires that some records required to be kept or prepared by the Assessor are also public documents and open to public inspection. Our customers may also purchase most of this information in various formats. Among such public records are:

  • Assessment Rolls
  • Assessor's Maps
  • The Secured Property Tax Roll
  • The Unsecured Property Tax Roll
  • Property Characteristics (such as building size, lot size, bedroom and bath count, date built and so on (ref. R&T 408.3, 409) See fee schedule page.
  • Applications for all Property Tax Exemptions except the Homeowners' Exemption.
  • The Two-year Property Transfer List (a list of all known recorded property transfers in the county over the last two years).

Confidential Non-Public Records: The Assessor also keeps many records which are to be kept confidential under the law. Examples of documents that are not open to public inspection include:

  • Property Appraisal Records
  • Property Building Records (except for property characteristics)
  • Change in Ownership Statements
  • Preliminary Change in Ownership Reports
  • Homeowners' Exemption Claims
  • Business Property Statements
  • Property statements of any sort requested from owners by the Assessor
  • General Property Sales Data collected by the Assessor
  • The law also specifies that certain law enforcement, governmental investigative agencies, and agencies of the State of California have access to confidential Assessors records. (ref. R&T 408)

Access to Owners' Confidential Records:

The owner of any property or that owner's agent may view or purchase copies of all Assessor's property records related to any property under their ownership. Among such records are the 'Appraisal Record' and 'Building Record.' These types of Assessor's records are not public documents and are not otherwise open to public inspection.

If an owner's agent wishes to view their client's property records, the owner or agent must present to the Assessor an original copy of a letter of agency authorization bearing an original signature of the property owner before access to an owner's confidential records will be provided. That letter should also include the Assessor's Parcel Number or the address of the property or properties in question, plus a daytime phone number where we might reach the owner to verify any facts related to the letter of agency. Public Information Available by Phone:

Access to Assessor's public information by phone is very limited. Assessor's staff will ONLY provide current assessed values over the phone. Be sure to have an address, parcel number or owner's name at hand when requesting this information.

Although it may be ordered by phone or viewed in person at the Assessor's Office, ownership and property characteristic information is NOT available over the phone and will not be provided by phone under any circumstance.

Property and Assessment Information Available on the Internet:

The Assessor maintains a website at, and a great deal of information including guidelines to specific assessment programs, property tax relief, forms, and helpful links. Property and assessment information is not available via the Internet.

What do you like most about your job? Serving the community and working with great people.
Why did you decide to work for the County? I saw an awesome opportunity for learning, growth and advancement.
What is your most memorable accomplishment during your County career? Becoming a valued employee and being entrusted with a wide variety of responsibilities.
When I'm not at work you can find me...Engrossed in some art project, cooking, sewing, and doing community work with my congregation.
What was your first job?  I was a waitress in a Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles.
What is your favorite food? Always chocolate!
What is your favorite kind of music? My husband and I DJ'd for a few years, so I love variety - especially good dance music in-the-mix!
What is your favorite sports team? I'm more into art than sports, but I enjoy watching a good game with great friends.
If you were to travel anywhere in the world for a dream vacation, where would it be? To Uruguay, South America with my husband to see where he grew up and meet his family.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Happily retired, close to my parents and family in Arizona.
