Staff Spotlight - BHS

Shirley Gallegos-Rodriguez - BHS

JaspicHow long have you worked for the County?  This October will be 12 years.
What do you like most about your job? Teaching women tools in understanding addiction, their growth process, and recovery progress. My fulfillment is for clients successfully complete treatment program, and continue sobriety.
Why did you decide to work for the County? The opportunity arose in continuing SUD Tx profession in providing counseling, education , support, and empowering clts in their recovery.

What is your most memorable accomplishment during your County career? In my early years remembering the excitement of a 4 year old seeing me. His mother, a client informed me her son says; he needs to get ready, he had bath, put on deodorant, splash his dad's cologne, because he is seeing Shirley. Clt states, "My little man thinks he is going on a date." I thought it was funny, and to cute! Accomplishments; I obtained SUD certification. I coordinated bringing facilitator from Sacramento Office of Aids presentation HIV/Aids, and provided Ceiu's to County employees.

When I'm not at work you can find me...Shopping for vintage items, jewelry, clothing. I enjoy traveling, concerts, missions, cathedrals, coast, amusement parks, nature, and dining out with my husband. I spend time with my 4 sisters, and other family members.

What was your first job? A summer job, I worked as an Occupational therapy aid with Fresno Veterans Hospital. My supervisor; an Occupational Therapist as a matter of fact, created Bambi for Disney Productions. I feel honored, and blessed to have known her.

What is your favorite food?  Most foods, I do not like octopus, and oysters.

What is your favorite kind of music?  Most music, I do not like rap or hip-hop.

What is your favorite sports team? Baseball- San Fransisco Giants, and Oakland A's.

If you were to travel anywhere in the world for a dream vacation, where would it be?  Probably Vatican Cathedral in Rome, Italy. However; Each state in the USA has remarkable history, scenery, and there is much to discover.

Where do you see yourself in five years?  I wrote, and copy wright 15 songs with Library of Congress in Washington D.C. I would like to record some of those songs. I will continue working on my bucket list (some I have accomplished), travel, concerts, DNA search. The concert I consider priceless is seeing;  the Rolling Stones, those guys can still rock! For myself- "Music soothes thee soul."
