Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP)

What is CHDP?

The Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) Program is a preventive health program under Children's Medical Services (CMS), serving children and youth. CHDP makes regular well-child checkups available to eligible children – not only those with obvious health problems, but also those who appear well.

The Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) Program is a Federal and State mandated health care program for infants, children, teen, and young adults. The goals of the program are to:

  • Encourage families to seek preventive health care
  • Identify and prevent health problems
  • Link people with treatment, education, support services and comprehensive healthcare coverage

Health problems detected early can help prevent future problems with:

  • Growth and development
  • Learning difficulties
  • Time off from work for parents
  • Serious health complications

Who is eligible for CHDP services?

  • Medi-Cal clients from birth through 20 years of age
  • Low to moderate income clients from birth through 18 years of age
  • Children in Foster Care
