The Maintenance Department has 15 employees consisting of 1 Supervisor, 3 Senior Building Crafts and Maintenance Workers, 1 Heating & Cooling Specialist & 10 Building Crafts and Maintenance Workers. One of the Senior Building Crafts & Maintenance Workers & two of the Building Crafts Maintenance Workers are assigned to the Department of Corrections Facility. The remaining staff are responsible for maintaining Madera County buildings throughout Madera County including: Chowchilla, Oakhurst, Bass Lake & North Fork.

Maintenance Department work hours are: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Staff is also available for emergency or call out duties after 5:00 PM & on weekends. Maintenance staff at the Department of Corrections are on a shift schedule: Senior Maintenance Worker work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. First shift Maintenance Worker work hours are: Sunday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM & Monday through Thursday 10:00 A.M. to 6:30 PM. Second shift Maintenance Worker work hours are: Tuesday through Friday 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM & Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Staff is also available for emergency & call out duties.

The Maintenance Department is responsible for the maintenance & operation of all Madera County buildings, building facilities & the equipment to operate those facilities. Following is a list of some of the different types of work we are responsible for:

 Heating & air conditioning
 Electrical
 Carpentry
 1700 to 2000 work request from County Departments per year
 Automatic vehicle gates repairs, PM & Inspection
 Fire alarm inspection & testing
 Quarterly preventative maintenance all building& equipment
 Energy saving measures
 Security locks installation
 Plumbing
 Sewers
  Painting
 Phone line installation
 Computer cable installation (fiber optic)
 Fire sprinkler inspection & testing
 Book elevator PM & inspection
 Concrete
 Shelving & cabinet construction


In addition to the Madera County building maintenance work, we are responsible for completing the annual Building Program Projects. Each year we are assigned between 30 and 40 Building Program Projects to complete within the Fiscal Year. Following are some of the different types of projects requested:

 Building Construction
 Office remodels
 Street light installation
 Roofing
 Sidewalk, curb & gutter installation
 HVAC replacement
 Modular building installation
 Asphalt paving, sealing & striping
 Carpet installation
 Chain link fence installation

The Maintenance Department is very talented & flexible in what we do. The staff is diligent in their duties, reacts to emergency situation well and are always ready for any new and challenging project when one is assigned. The Maintenance Department prides itself in accomplishing whatever task we are asked to do.
