What is Madera County doing to Prepare to Respond to a Major Health Emergency?

Madera County is taking steps to respond to bioterrorism or an urgent health crisis.   This flyer will give you an idea of what is happening in the county.

 

The Public Health Department protects and promotes the health of the community by means of preventive medical, sanitation, and educational services. This department is also responsible for enforcing all State and local health laws. Specific programs include Communicable Disease Control, Child Health, California Children Services, Family Health, child and adult physical assessments, public health laboratory analysis, vital statistics, institutional medical and nursing services, public hearing and occupational medical advisory services, Health Education, Community Health, planning, immunization clinics, Family Planning, and medical care of inmates at the Adult Correctional Facility and Juvenile Hall. The department also administers a senior citizens health program, a school children's dental program, and the Child Health and Disability Program.

These immunizations will protect your baby from these 12 diseases: Polio, Diphteria, Tetanus (lockjaw), Pertussis (whooping cought), Measles, Mumps, Rubella (German measles), Hib (Meningitis), Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Varicella (chicken pox), and Pneumococcal infections.

Chowchilla: 1st Wednesday of the month 2:00 - 4:00pm.

Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH)
Assists in the health of infants and parents, provides a safe and healthy environment for women, children and their families, equal access to all women, children, among all racial/ethnic, gender, economic, and regional groups.

Parent's Out-of-Hospital Birth Packet
Contains an important worksheet which the physician or parents must complete and take to their local health department within 10 days following the date of the baby's birth.

Preventive Health Care for Adults (PHCA)
The PHCA program provides FREE health assessments, screenings, education, counseling and referrals to persons 50 and over to help them to achieve and maintain their highest level of health and independence. Comprehensive health screenings and counseling are provided by public health nurses.

Public Health Laboratory
Provide analyses for the protection of the public's health by assessing the incidence of and preventing the spread of a wide range of infectious diseases in the community.

Public Health Nursing
Provides in the areas of maternal and children's health, chronic disease case management, tuberculosis, lead poisoning, SIDS, communicable disease, and adult health.

Tobacco Control and Education Program
Provides technical assistance to school districts, health organizations, governments, and private citizens on health issues regarding tobacco prevention and environmental tobacco smoke.

Vital Statistics
Issues certified copies of birth and death certificates, authorizes burial permits, registers births and deaths and out-of-hospital births, acts as a liaison between the public and the State of California Office of Vital Records, compiles data relating to births, deaths and infectious diseases reported in the county, and provides statistical information upon request.

West Nile Virus
West Nile virus (WNV) is an illness that can be spread to humans through mosquito bites. Symptoms of WNV are similar to flu-like symptoms and can include fever, severe headache, and body aches.

WIC Program
Nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children.
