In the home and the community Public Health Nursing services provide a multitude of services for many different populations. Public Health Nursing has programs that serve Maternal, Children’s & Adolescent health, Tuberculosis, Lead Poisoning, Communicable Diseases & Preventative Health Care for Adults. Public Health Nurses are also available to provide support for families affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), Lead Poisoning & Chronic Disease management. The role of a Public Health Nurse is to provide support, services & resources to families in need. One of the many goals that Public Health Nurses strive to attain is the health & wellness of both client and community. Case management services are initiated when a PHN makes a visit to a client’s home. The PHN is educated to recognize symptomology from a holistic viewpoint; recognizing that each client has their own internal framework that lends to their unique situation. PHN’s are able to assess, educate & refer clients as is needed for each situation. The Public Health Nurse lends a specialized touch to our community & is a valuable resource to the county of Madera. Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
(CLPPP)
The goal of the CLPPP is to prevent lead poisoning in children
by pro-active action to educate the public regarding the hazards
of lead poisoning, and to provide a comprehensive response to
support lead burdened children, their families and the community.
The CLPPP outreach and education activities include: assembling
quarterly Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Task Force meetings,
working with Children's Health and Disability Prevention program
providers to increase the number of children screened for lead
poisoning, providing outreach information at local health fairs,
and providing education to high-risk groups.
The public health nurse acts as a case manager to assist families
of physician identified cases. The nurse provides appropriate
health care referral, educates families about lead poisoning
prevention, follows individual cases for compliance with care,
works cooperatively with the environmental health department
to assess environmental concerns, and provides appropriate documentation
and reporting to the state. A toll free number, 1-800-427-6897,
is available to contact the CLPPP Coordinator for any questions
or referrals to the program. Additional information may be found
