Sand & Sandbag Locations The Madera County Road Department is responsible for the maintenance and construction of roads, culverts and bridges on the County’s maintained mileage system excluding State Highways.  We also perform maintenance on roads in Maintenance Districts and County Service Areas within the unincorporated areas of the County. Overall, the Road Department is responsible for maintaining over 1,800 miles of roads and approximately 170 bridges. The Road Department’s budget is primarily financed by State Fuel Taxes, Federal State Allocations, Forest Reserve Funds, and Special District service charges.  Funds are also received through programs such as STIP (State Transportation Improvement Program), CMAQ (Congestion Mitigation Air Quality), TEA (Transportation Equity Act) and Traffic Mitigation Fees.  The Department also receives revenue from a five cent property tax from District 5.  Revenue from special sales tax measures, such as Measure A and Measure T, also augment departmental efforts but are not included in the Department’s budget.   Proposition 1B Projects & Supplement (2008-2011) (updated 1-7-10) Speed Zone Determination Guidelines
