Welcome to the District
2 website. Serving as the District 2 County Supervisor
is an honor. I hope that you will find the web site a helpful
resource when seeking information about District 2.
I was elected to the Madera County Board of
Supervisors in 1998; took office in January 1999 and was elected
to a second term in 2002. I served as Chairman of the Board
of Supervisors in 2003 and currently I am serving as the Chairman
Pro Tem. As part of my responsibilities I have been appointed
by the Board of Supervisors to serve on several boards
and commissions. I began my 6th year as Chairman of the
First 5
Family Commission in January 2006. Prior to my going through
the Chairs I served as Chairman of the Regional
Council of Rural Counties water committee.
On December 31, 2005 I completed the four year
commitment going through the chairs of the Regional Council
of Rural Counties serving as the Chairman of the thirty County
organization in 2004. Among the many issues we dealt with
were water and public safety. This organization has been instrumental
in legislation that benefits, not only the State, but the
County of Madera and the Central Valley. I am pleased to remain
the Madera County delegate to RCRC.
Some of the visions I have had for District
2 have either become a reality or are in the final stages
of becoming a reality. When I was Mayor of Chowchilla I had
a dream for a skate
board park. With various funding resources including $100,000
from the County of Madera the Park was opened in 2005. It
is now one of the most popular facilities in Chowchilla.
In 2003 we were able to complete the new library
in Chowchilla. This was an item originally twice turned down
by the State. The library now serves the greater Chowchilla
area.
After a substantial archaeological discovery
in the Fairmead area we began working on the Paleontology
Museum. We have continued to move forward with the project.
The Paleontology Museum will serve not only as an educational
tool for children throughout the State and Western United
States, but will also be a tourist attraction that will bring
tourist, and tourist dollars, to Madera County enhancing our
economic base.
The Fairmead Toddler’s Park is almost
completed. We are working on funding to acquire the playground
equipment. Farimead’s first park!
One thing we need to understand today is Madera
County is not the small rural County we knew in the past.
We need to sell the two Cities and Madera County as what they
are, innovative locations where things happen. Let the construction
of the new Government Center epitomize that idea.
Thank you for visiting the District 2 web site.
I invite you to contact me with any County issues of concern.
Sincerely,
Vern D. Moss
