California State Controllers Office
The State Controller is the Chief Fiscal Officer of California, the eighth largest economy in the world. He helps administer $300 billion in state pension funds and serves on 76 state boards and commissions. These are charged with duties ranging from protecting our coastline to helping build hospitals. The Controller is the state’s independent fiscal watchdog, providing sound fiscal control over more than $100 billion in receipts and disbursements of public funds a year, offering fiscal guidance to local governments and uncovering fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars.

of California Franchise Tax Board
The Franchise Tax Board is the department that collects state
personal income taxes and bank and corporation taxes for the
State of California. Each year the department collects over $33
billion in tax revenues from individuals, banks and corporations
- 62% of California's entire General Fund. Over 14 million personal
income tax returns are received and processed by the department
each year.

Board of Equalization
Created in 1879 by a constitutional amendment, the Board of Equalization
was initially charged with responsibility for ensuring that county
property tax assessment practices were equal and uniform throughout
the state. Currently the tax programs administered by the Board
are concentrated in four general areas: sales and use taxes,
property taxes, special taxes and the tax appellate program.
In 1999-00, taxes and fees administered by the Board yielded
$39.46 billion to provide essential services for the people of
California. Board-administered programs provided more than 34
percent of the state's tax revenue.
